GENERAL ASSEMBLY 1 – DISARMAMENT AND INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

COMMITTEE INTRODUCTION:

The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), or GA1, is the first out of the six Main Committees of the General Assembly. Established in 1945 together with the United Nations, to date, GA1 now has 193 nations as its Member States. It was not until 1978 that GA1 was renamed from the Political and Security Committee (POLISEC) to the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC).

According to the United Nations, GA1 addresses the issues of “disarmament, global challenges and threats to peace that affect the international community”, as well as works to find ultimate solutions to the challenges posed to the international security.
