Committee Introduction

The World Health Organisation (WHO) is a specialised agency of the United Nations, having its roots back to the Health Organisation of the League of Nations. It was founded on July 22nd, 1946 and came into force on April 7th, 1948 - the first World Health Day.

Its mission, as stated in the Constitution, is β€œthe attainment by all people of the highest possible level of health.”

Since its inception, the WHO has assumed the leading role in combating disease all around the world. It helped eradicate numerous global deadly diseases like smallpox and polio. Each year, it publishes the World Health Report, a series of reports concerning a specific global health topic of the year concerning all member states. Recently, it helped prevent the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa and Zika in South America.
